FB SHMS @ Ottawa-2 games-SHMS |
The 8th grade Mavericks football team came away from Ottawa last night with an 8-6 victory. The defense played a great game and the offense performed well enough, considering this was their first game of the year and they were playing in wet conditions. There were too many nice passes, catches, runs and tackles to mention everyone. That is the way we want it all season, a TEAM effort. Job well done!
Your 7th grade varsity football Mavericks braved the rain yesterday and traveled to Ottawa for their first gridiron action of the season. In a sloppy game of turnover after turnover your Mavs broke through with a nice little 47 yard run by Michael Londene for a touchdown. Through the air your Mavericks were pretty good with Charles Elam and Garrett Getz making some sweet catches. That would prove to be all the scoring your Mavs would need. The defense stepped up and pitched a shutout holding the Whirlwinds to minimal yardage. Led by Tyus Heinrich the Mavs D was tremendous. On the corners, Noah Atteberry and Taylor Burton came up and smashed the Whirlwind players all night long. In the end your Mavericks returned home cold, winners of a 6-0 ballgame. Way to go boys!! You really earned that one. |

The 8th grade JV opened the season with a bone brusing 34-6 victory over the Wheatridge Mustangs. The game is played on a 100 yard field and it took pad pounding blocks by the line to open gapping holes for the backs. Scoring was spread around to several players as the lineman of Jordan Martin, Cody Dabelstein, Jacob Sloan, Conner Gillihan and Dylan Thompson paved the way. Keep up the great work Mavericks.
Your JV 7th grade Mavericks played the Wheatridge Mustangs on Thursday. It was a thriller until the end. Wheatridge scored first on a long run, but didn't convert on the two point conversion. Your Mavericks responded with a long score of their own. Your Mavericks held strong the rest of the game with keeping Wheatridge out of the endzone the rest of the game. The final score was 18-6. Everyone played so hard that it is hard to mention just one player. Great Job Mavericks. |

The Mavericks next game is at home Tuesday against Baldwin. Thanks to the cheerleaders and everyone else who cheered them on.
Your 7th grade varsity Mavericks hosted their firs home game last night versus the Wildcats of Louisburg. Boy, were we bad hosts!! After a first quarter touchdown by Louisburg your Maverick defense kicked it up a notch and slammed every Wildcat in sight. A total team defensive effort meant one thing to the Wildcats...a long, long night. Offensively, SHMS controlled the ball and ran the ball with ease against the Louisburg defense. Michael Londene had touchdown runs of 36, 43 and 49 yards. Tyus Heinrich added his first score of the year on a hard-nosed 8 yard run. Ryker Johnson added a late 5-yard run for a touchdown. Your 7th grade JV football team hosted the Louisburg Wildcats on Thursday. The team were great hosts, by putting 28 points on the board, and holding Louisburg to 6. Your Mavericks played hard and showed that it is a team that wins not an individual. The feeling of the Victory formation at the end of the game was enough for the players to understand that winning is about team, and not who should score the next touchdown. Keep up the good work Mavericks. |

Last night, the 8th grade Varsity Mavericks came away from Eudora with a 30-0 victory. Not only did the defense hold Eudora scoreless, they also scored 6 point on a Trevian Bryant interception. We were very pleased with the efforts of allt he players, especially the ones playing for people who were gone sick and for those playing while not feeling well themselves. Our next game will be at Paola next Tuesday. Thanks to all who cheered the Mavericks on.
