Last night the 7th grade varsity basketball team opened their season with a 29 to 12 win over the Ottawa Whirlwinds. This win was an overall team effort! Out of the locker room the Lady Mavs were pumped and excited to get things started out on the court. The Lady Mavs controlled the game offensively as they fed the ball inside to Jenna Nevius and Shelby Baker for the quick 2 points. Defensively the quick feet of Sydney Shoemaker, Sydney Weaver and Abby Bell created numerous Whirlwind turnovers. Out front Chasity Ward and Katy Crooks unselfishly ran the offense by passing the ball inside to the posts or taking it to the hoop for 2 points. The Lady Mavs play at Mill Creek next Tuesday. The 7th grade JV Lady Mavs kicked off the 2009 basketball season with an impressive win over the Ottawa Whirlwinds. The Lady Mavs got on the board with the first points of the game and never looked back as they led at half 22-2. The Lady Mavs continued to play solid defense in the second half and finished the game with a 32-12 victory. The Lady Mavs were led in scoring by Abigail Mikesell with 8, Karinna Cain with 6, Mckenzie Tyler, Hanna Meiring, Tristen Richardson and Tessa Davids all with 4 points each and Jasmine Pennington with 2 points. Macy Burke, Sam Ragle and Jessica Pollom contributed with aggressive defense, rebounding and passing. The Lady Mavs continue their season on Tuesday as they travel to Mill Creek. |

The 8th grade varsity girls were prancing high last night after their 31-12 victory over the Ottawa Whirlwinds. The Lady Mavericks disrupted Ottawa's offense by playing some awesome defense causing several turnovers. Sydney Cluck's quickness on offense and defense paid off for a total of 8 points and 6 steals for the evening. Jumping high in the air was #54, Rachel Schuckman, grabbing high rebound honors of the night with 12. Shelby Spradling also looked good on the offensive end, pumping in a whopping 8 points. Other team members contributing to the scoreboard were Rachel Schuckman with 5 points, Hailey Taylor, Mindy Cussen, Alix Brown, Hayley Ditmars and Sarah Beck with 2 points each. Congratulations Lady Mavs! What a great way to start the season! The 8th grade JV kicked off their season with a 22-8 win over Ottawa. There great defense and tough half court trap kept the Whirlwinds scoreless in the first half. The JV Lady Mavericks were led by Holly Brooks who had 8 rebounds, 9 steals and 8 points. Shayna Weers had 6 pts followed by Mackenzie Gretencord and Shelby Mata with 4pts and Laura Mossman with 2pts. |

The 7th grade varsity basketball team traveled to Mill Creek last night for a little basketball competition. It was a slow start to the game but the Lady Mavs had the lead at half time by the score of 14 to 9. The half time pep talk focused on running the offense and staying under control. The Lady Mavs came out after half and took it to the Lady Mustangs adding 7 unanswered points to the board. Leading the team in offensive and defensive rebounds was Shelby Baker with 11 followed by Jenna Nevius with 7. At the top of the key Sydney Weaver led the team in steals with 5 followed by Chasity Ward with 3. The overall determination and teamwork of the Lady Mavs led them to a 27 to 20 victory. See the 7th grade basketball team tomorrow night in Paola. Way to go ladies! The 7th grade JV Lady Mavericks moved to 2-0 last night as they defeated the 7th grade JV team from Mill Creek. The Lady Mavs jumped out to an early 12-0 lead and took a 12-4 lead into half time. In the 2nd half Mill Creek closed the gap to 13-6 before the Lady Mavericks pulled away in the 4th quarter with a 21-6 victory. The Lady Mavericks were led in steals by Tessa Davids wtih 5, Abby Mikesell with 4, Hannah Meiring with 3, and Mackenzie Tyler, Sam Ragle, Karinna Cain with 2 steals a piece, and Jessica Pollom and Macy Burke with 1 steal each. The Lady Mavericks played solid defense and were able to create turnovers and turn those turnovers into points. The Lady Mavericks will travel to Paola on Thursday to take on the Panthers. |

The 8th grade varsity basketball team finished in style last night defeating Mill Creek, 30-16. The Lady Mavs struggled on offense throughout the game but their aggressive defense led to numerous steals by Sydney Cluck who scored three important lay-ups in the 4th quarter. Hayley Ditmars had the touch last night, scoring 7 points from the wing. Other scorers were Rachel Schuckman with 7 points, Shelby Spradling with 6 points, and Sara Beck with 4 points. Great job ladies! The Lady Mavs want to give a special thanks to the fans and cheerleaders for all their support this year. You guys are awesome! The 8th grade JV had another great defensive night last night in their game against Mill Creek. The Lady Mavs held Mill Creek to just 8 points in their 22-8 victory. Once again the Mavs were led by Holly Brooks with 6 points and 7 steals, Laura Mossman also had 6 points, followed by Shelby Mata and Shayna Weers with 4 points and Mackenzie Gretencord with 1 free throw. Mackenzie and Shayna each had 3 steals in their defensive effort. Laura led the team wtih 5 rebounds, Shelby and Laura each had 4. Great job ladies, keep it up. |

The 7th grade varsity basketball team traveled to Paola last night to challenge the Panthers. The Lady Mavs were eager to get out on the court and play ball! First quarter the Lady Mavs moved the ball smoothly on offense getting it inside to Shelby Baker and Sydney Weaver who contributed to your Lady Mavs first 10 points. The defense of the Mavs was powerful and aggressive as they stopped the Panthers from scoring from the field. The rest of the game ws much of the same; the Lady Mavs in control on offense and defense while the Panthers struggled and turned the ball over. Mighty Shelby Baker lead the team in rebounds with 8 and steals with 7. Keeping the Panthers from scoring by pulling down the rebounds were Jenna Nevius and Sydney Shoemaker with 4 points each. At the top of the key Chasity Ward and Katy Crooks were creating Panther chaos and contributing 4 steals a piece to the team's efforts. Anna Duncan was outstanding from the free-throw line making 3 of her 4 shots! Overall the Lady Mavs showed awesome teamwork to obtain another win by the score of 34 to 17! See the Mavs play again Monday night against Eudora in the first round of the Wellsville Tournament. Awesome job ladies keep working hard in practice it pays off in the games! Last night the 7th grade JV Lady Mavericks traveled to take on the Lady Panthers. The Lady Panthers jumped out to an early lead in the 1st quarter as the Lady Mavericks trailed 3 - 10. The Lady Mavericks started to make a comeback in the 2nd quarter and only trailed by 6 points at the half 8-14. In the second half the Lady Panthers were to much for the Lady Mavericks, teh Lady Mavericks were defeated 27-13. The Lady Mavericks were led in scoring by Hannah Meiring 4 points, Jessica Pollom 3 points, Abby Mikesell and Sam Ragle 2 points each, Jasmine Pennington and Tessa Davids 1 point each. The Lady Mavericks were led in steals by Karinna Cain and Macy Burke with 4 steals each, Hannah Meiring 3 steals, Jessica Pollom 2 steals, Mackenzie Tyler, Tristen Richardson, Abby Mikesell and Tessa Davids with 1 steal each. The Lady Mavericks 7th grade JV have next week off before traveling to Louisburg on November 10th to take on the Wildcats. |

The 8th grade varsity Lady Mavs conquered their southern rival last nigh, the Paola Panthers, by a score of 22-14. It was an exciting two halves of basketball. Spring Hill played an aggressive defense holding the Panthers to a total of 8 points in the first half and only 6 points the second half. On offense, the Lady Mavs worked hard for every point they scored. Shelby Spradling topped the scoring honors with 8 points including a sensational three-pointer at the buzzer. Rachel Schuckman racked up 6 points and also pulled down some key rebounds late in the fourth quarter. Leading the team in steals were Sydney Cluck, Alix Brown and Sara Beck. Great job Ladies!!!! We are proud of you!!! The 8th grade JV Lady Mavs kept their momentum going with a 16-12 win over the Paola Panthers. Once again their defense frustrated the offense and kept the scoring low. The half court trap and 1-2-2 defense is working well against our opponents and allowing steals and layups. Scoring leaders against Paola were Laura Mossman and Holly Brooks with 4 points each. Adding two points each to the scoreboard were Shayna Weers, Haidyn Hrabe, Shelby Mata and Mackenzie Gretencord. Great job ladies!!! |

Last night was the first game of the Wellsville preseason basketball tournament. The 8th grade Lady Mavs proved they deserved to go to the finals by defeating the Eudora Cardinals in a nail biter finish. Even though the girls were frustrated on offense, they had plenty of hustle and intensity on defense, shutting down Eudora's inside game. Scoring for the Lady Mavs were Shelby Spradling with 6 points, Rachel Schuckman and Hayley Ditmars with 4 points each and Sydney Cluck with 2 points. The girls have an undefeated record of 4-0 this season. Way to go girls! Good luck in the championship game on Thurday. The 7th grade varsity basketball team won their game last night against Eudora in the first round of the Wellsville tournament. Hot off the bench Shelby Baker, Sydney Weaver and Chasity Ward connected numberous times on the fast break adding quick unanswered points to the board. Jumping high and leading the team in rebounds was Shelby Baker with 10 followed by Katy Crooks with 3. Lily Smith and Baker had tough defense anticipating the ball leading the team in steals Baker with 4 and Smith with 3. Sydney Shoemaker was 100% at the free-throw line! The awesome teamwork of the Lady Mavs 7th grade basketball team resulted in a win by the score of 39 to 9 making the team's record 4 and 0. The 8th grade Lady Mavs placed second in the Wellsville tournament last night, only to be defeated by a very talented Baldwin team. The Lady Mavs popped in 4 quick points to start the game, but went cold until the second half when they out scored Baldwin in the third quarter. It wasn't enough to close the gap, but the girls showed their true character by giving it their best effort until the buzzard. The final score was 47-23. Scoring for the Mavericks were Hayley Ditmars with 9 points, Rachel Schuckman with 6 points, Sydney Cluck with 4 points and Sarah Beck and Alix Brown added 2 points each. Sydney Cluck and Alix Brown showed their quickness on defense with a total of 10 steals. Great job ladies! CONGRATULATIONS to the 7th grade varsity basketball team as they took 1st place last night in the Wellsville tournament by defeating the Baldwin Bulldogs with the score of 32 to 14. The Lady Mav's teamwork and offensive plays on the court were amazing! The Lady Mavs played with intensity and patience throughout the game. Abby Bell and Alicia Young's defense was aggressive and intimidating causing the Bulldog turnovers. Sydney Weaver took charge at the top of the key contributing 5 assists and 4 steals to the team's efforts. Under the basket Shelby Baker and Jenna Nevius pulled down rebound after rebound, Baker with 9 and Nevius with 7. On fire last night were Baker and Weaver leading the team in points. The 7th grade varsity basketball team suffered their first loss of the season last night to a very physical Louisburg Wildcat team. Trailing the 1st half by as much as 8 points the Lady Mavs stepped up their game in search of a win. At the half time buzzer Sydney Weaver hit a 3 pointer bringing the Lady Mavs with in 2 points, the half time score was 18 to 16. The second half of the game kept the fans on the edge of their seat as the Lady Mavs were in foul trouble but they never let up on their aggressive offense and defense. Going into the 4th quarter the Lady Mavs were in control by the score of 30 to 34 however the Wildcats scored 7 unanswered points 2 of them in the last 20 seconds of the game to seal the Wildcats victory by the score of 37 to 34. The Lady Mavs play at home tomorrow night against Ottawa. Way to hang in there ladies! A saying to think about as you reflect on the game: Attitudes are contagious. Is yours worth catching? The 8th Grade Lady Mavs played a very physical game last night against the Louisburg Wildcats. Louisburg’s full court press surprised the Lady Mavs causing several turnovers, allowing them to jump to an 8-point lead in the first quarter. Spring Hill bounced back in the second quarter outscoring the cats 5-2. In the second half, Sydney Cluck and Sara Beck sparked the team by connecting on several fast-break opportunities. The Lady Mavs didn’t give up, they out scored the cats again in the fourth quarter, 9-7, but it wasn’t enough for a victory. The final score was 22-30. Sydney Cluck used her quickness to drive the ball to the basket scoring 6 points for a game high. Also contributing to the scoreboard was Hayley Ditmars with 5 points, Sara Beck and Hailey Taylor with 4 points, Mindy Cussen with 2 points, and Rachel Schuckman with 1 point. The Lady Mavs will regroup tonight at practice and travel to Ottawa tomorrow to challenge the Whirlwinds. Good luck ladies! 8th grade JV was offered their first lost last night against the Louisburg Wildcats. It was a hard fought game that went back and forth in the score until 5 minutes to go. The Lady Mavs once again did a great job on defense keeping the Wildcats out of their offense most of the first half. Louisburg's full court press caused the Lady Mavs some problem, but we were still able to get a few baskets off the fast break. What an exciting win for the 7th grade varsity girls last night. Jumping into the lead against the Ottawa Whirlwinds the Lady Mavs were in control most of the game. However, the final quarter was a different story. The Whirlwinds scored 2 quick baskets at the beginning of the 4th quarter and only trailed the Lady Mavs by 6 points. The Lady Mavs worked hard and stepped up their game for the final minutes winning by the score of 26 to 23. Your lady Mavs record is now 6 and 1. Super job ladies! Coach Meek Last night the 7th grade Lady Mavs JV hosted the 7th grade JV from Ottawa. The Lady Mavs got off to a slow start in the first quarter but led 2-0. In the 2nd quarter the Lady Mavericks started to get some shots to fall as they went into halftime leading 10-4. In the second half the Lady Mavericks stepped up their defensive efforts and held the JV from Ottawa scoreless in the second half. Offensively the Lady Mavericks continued to sho0t the ball and came away with the victory 27-4. The Lady Mavericks were led defensively by Abby Mikesell with 5 steals, Jasmine Pennington, Mackenzie Tyler, Karina Cain with 4 steals each, Tessa Davids, Jessica Pollon 3 steals each, Macy Burke, Tristen Richardson, and Hanna Meiring 2 steals each, and Sam Ragle 1 steal. It was magic for the 8th grade Lady Mavs last night as they played a very intense, low scoring game against the Ottawa Whirlwinds. Ottawa thought they had their first victory of the season when they sunk a free throw with 7 seconds remaining in the game. Not to out done, the magical Hayley Ditmars received a pass from Sydney Cluck, swishing an 18 footer at the buzzard to secure a one-point Maverick victory. The final score was 14-13. Great job ladies! Keep the magic alive!! The 8th grade JV took a tough defensive stand against Ottawa holding them to just 2 points. With 34 team steals by the Lady Mavs Ottawa had a tough time setting up their offense. The Lady Mavs did have a tough time scoring on their end with only 15 points for the night, but their tough defense and steals kept them in the ballgame. Our scoring leader was Shayna Weers with 6 points, followed by Mackenzie Gretencord with 4, Laura Mossman and Mindy Cussen with 2 and Shelby Mata with 1. The 7th grade Varsity basketball team scored quickly on the tip off last night and never looked back. The Eudora Cardinals struggled with stopping the Mavs offensively. The Lady Mavs were making good shots from all angles of the basket. At the top of the key Sydney Weaver, Chasity Ward and Lilly Smith displayed outstanding defense confusing the Lady Cardinals. Under the basket rebounding and boxing out like mad-women were Sydney Shoemaker, Shelby Baker and Jenna Nevius. Awesome teamwork led the Lady Mavs to a 44 to 11 victory! The team is now 7 and 1. They play tomorrow night in Baldwin. Last night the 7th grade JV Lady Mavericks hosted the 7th grade JV Lady Cardinals from Eudora. The Lady Mavericks won the first quarter as they jumped out to a 6-2 lead. In the second quarter the Lady Mavericks continued to play good defense and shoot the ball well as they went into halftime with a 12-4 lead. In the second half the Lady Mavericks maintained their tough defense and held the Lady Cardinals to 3 second half points. On the offensive end the Lady Mavericks continued to take good shots and were able to score 14 second half points and come away with the 26-7 victory over the Cardinals. The Lady Mavericks were led in scoring by Tessa Davids with 6 points, Mackenzie Tyler, Sam Ragle, and Jessica Pollom with 4 points each, Hannah Meiring, Jasmine Pennington, and Abby Mikesell with 2 points each. Macy Burke contributed with hard nosed defense,rebounding, and smart passing. The Lady Mavericks 7th grade JV improve to 4-2 on the season and will travel to Baldwin to take on the Lady Bulldogs 7th grade JV on Thursday. |

The 8th grade Varsity Lady Mavs were persistent last night as they trailed on the heels of the Eudora Cardinals for the first three quarters. Sarah Beck scored 6 of her 8 points for the night in the fourth quarter to put Spring Hill in the lead by 5. Eudora answered back with a basket, but it wasn’t enough to beat the Lady Mavs. The final score was Spring Hill 27, Eudora 24. Top scorer for the night was Sydney Cluck with 9, Sarah Beck with 8, Hayley Ditmars with 4, and Hailey Taylor, Rachel Schuckman, and Mindy Cussen each with 2 points. The Lady Mavs improve their record to 6 and 2 for the season. Great job ladies. Defense was the key again last night for the 8th grade JV as they held the Eudora Cardinals to just 7 points. With 23 steals as a team Eudora had a difficult time setting up their offense and scoring. Hard work on the offensive end helped the Lady Mavs score 27 points with 6 out of the 8 players contributing points. Leading the scoring with 8 points was Mackenzie Gretencord, Shayna Weers had 6 points, Holly Brooks, Shelby Mata and Mindy Cussen each had 4 points, and Laura Mossman hit a free throw for 1 point. |

The 7th grade girls’ varsity basketball team suffered a hard fought battle last night against the Baldwin Bulldogs. The lady Mavs struggled offensively while the Bulldogs offense prevailed. They played strong defense but at the end of the game the Bulldogs pulled away scoring off of lay-ups from steals resulting in a Mav loss by the score of 11 to 20. See the girls Monday at home vs Wheatridge. Last night the Lady Mavericks 7th grade JV traveled to Baldwin to take on the Lady Bulldogs. In the first quarter the Lady Mavericks and the Lady Bulldogs traded baskets back and forth and were tied 6-6. The Lady Mavericks continued to play tough defense and got enough offense to stay close as they went into the half trialing 10-9. In the second half the Lady Mavericks struggled offensively but were able to stay close because of solid defense by Tristen Richardson, Abby Mikesell, Jasmine Pennington and Macy Burke. At the end of the 3rd quarter the Lady Mavericks trailed 15-9. In the fourth quarter the Lady Mavericks shut down the Lady Bulldogs offensively holding them to 1 point. Offensively the Lady Mavericks made a run and tied the game 15-15 with a minute to go. With 30 seconds left in the game Mackenzie Tyler got the ball and dished it off to Tristen Richardson. Richardson was fouled and went to the line were she converted on 1 of 2 free throws. The Lady Mavericks were able to hold on for the victory 16-15. The Lady Mavericks were led in scoring by Tessa Davids 10 points, Jasmine Pennington, Sam Ragle 2 points each, and Abby Mikesell, Tristen Richardson 1 point each. Karinna Cain contributed with 1 rebound and 1 assist and Jessica Pollom contributed with 1 rebound and 1 steal. By playing solid defense and timely offense the Lady Mavericks improve to 5-2. They Lady Mavericks will host Wheatridge on Monday for their last game before the break. |

The 8th Grade Varsity Lady Mavs played an excellent game on the defensive end of the court last night against the Baldwin Bulldogs. However, poor shooting percentage throughout the game was the main reason for the 14-32 loss. Hayley Ditmars was high point for the night with 6 points, followed by Sydney Cluck with 4 points. Rachel Schuckman ripped down 8 rebounds followed closely by Sarah Beck with 7. Monday night the Lady Mavs travel to Wheatridge to take on the Trailblazers. Good Luck ladies! The 8th grade JV went down for a lose by only 2 points with 16 seconds remaining in the ballgame. The Lady Mavs hustled all over the court to keep the Baldwin Bulldogs to just 13 points, but were unable to score more than 11 on the offensive end. The 7th grade varsity basketball team dominated the court last night as the faced the Mustangs from Wheatridge. The Lady Mavs offense was “HOT!” as they shot 41% from the field and scoring a total of 38 points. Top scores on the team were Shelby Baker, Sydney Weaver, and Jenna Nevius. The Lady Mavs had no problem scoring as they broke the press put on by the Mustangs. The Lady Mavs lead at half time by the score of 22 to 6. Sydney Shoemaker stepped up her game contributing 8 rebounds and 3 steals. In the end the Lady Mavs were victorious by the score of 38 to 12. Last night the Lady Mavericks 7th grade JV took on the 7th grade JV team from Wheatridge. The Lady Mavericks took control early playing solid defense and executing offensively to take a 16-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter the Lady Mavericks continued to play solid defense while adding to their lead offensively as they led 21-4 at haltime. In the second half the Lady Mavericks used good shot selection and strong defense as the Lady Mavericks finished with a season high 42 points in a 42-12 victory. Defensively the Lady Mavericks came away with 32 steals led by Hanna Meiring 6 steals, Jasmine Pennington, Abby Mikesell, Sam Ragle, Karina Cain, and Tristen Richardson 4 steals each, Tessa Davids, Macy Burke, and Jessica Pollon 2 steals each, and Mackenzie Tyler 1 steal. The Lady Mavericks were led in scoring by Tristen Richardson and Hanna Meiring 8 points each, Abby Mikesell, Sam Ragle 7 points each, Karina Cain 6 points, and Tessa Davids 4 points, and Jessica Pollon 2 points. The Lady Mavericks 7th grade JV goes into the break with a 6-2 record. After the break the Lady Mavericks will take on Pionner Ridge on Thursday December 3rd as they look to extend their winning streak to 5 games. |

The crowd got their money’s worth last night as the 8th grade Varsity Lady Mavs challenged the Wheatridge Mustangs on their home court. Spring Hill led only two times during the game, the first point of the game and the last point of the game. That’s right, the Lady Mavs kept everyone on the edge of the seat as Shelby Spradling sank a 10 footer to tie the score at 18-18 with only 24 seconds remaining in the game. Sydney Cluck stole the ball on the inbound play and was fouled with 20 seconds on the clock. As she stepped the line, Sydney felt the pressure as she swished the first of two free throws. Gardner grabbed the rebound with only seconds to score, missing a last shot attempt from under the basket. Saved by the buzzard, your Lady Mavs win another close and exciting game, 21-20. The girls go into the Thanksgiving break with a winning record of 7-3. Great job ladies! The 8th grade JV did a great job scoring last night, defeating the Wheatridge Mustangs 31-20. Holly Brooks and Shayna Weers led the scoring with 8 points each followed by Mackenzie Gretencord with 7 points, Laura Mossman with 6 points and Mindy Cussen with 2 points. On the defensive end the Lady Mavs did a great job of holding the Mustangs and getting 17 steals to stay ahead the entire ballgame. Way to go Lady Mavs!! |

The 7th grade varsity basketball team played an exciting game last night against the Pioneer Ridge Jags. The crowd was kept on the edge of their seats with the close back and forth scoring. The Lady Mavs lead the first quarter by the score of 10 to 7. At half time the Jags were in the lead 13 to 15. The Lady Mavs stepped up their game and closed in on the gap 3rd quarter but the Jags were still ahead 18 to 19. You could feel the Mav’s intensity and aggression rising the entire 4th quarter- they were determined! Shelby Baker had an outstanding 19 points and 14 rebounds. Jenna Nevius added 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Chasity Ward pulled down 9 rebounds and contributed 3 assists. The Lady Mavs were victorious by the score of 28 to 23 making their season record 9 wins and 2 losses. See these girls Monday night at home for their final regular season game. The Lady Mavericks 7th grade, JV were looking to move their record to 7 and 2 with their 5th straight win. The Lady Mavericks got off to a slow start offensively but played tough defensively and were tied 2-2 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter the Lady Mavericks continued to play tough defense and picked up their offense as they went into the half leading 7-2. In the second half the Lady Jaguars came out shooting as they jumped out to an 11-9 lead after the 3rd quarter. In the fourth quarter the Lady Mavericks tightened up defensively and were able to come up with enough offense as they pulled away with the victory 14-11. The Lady Mavericks were led in scoring by Abby Mikesell and Tristen Richardson with 5 points each, and Jasmine Pennington and Macy Burke with 2 points each. The 8th grade Varsity Lady Mavs played their best defensive game of the season last night only to fall short on the scoreboard in the final seconds of the game. Pioneer Ridge of Gardner came away with the victory by a score of 14-16. Leading the team in rebounds was Rachel Schuckman with 10. Alix Brown led the team in scoring with 2 nice shots from the baseline. Showing their quickness on defense, Sydney Cluck and Shelby Spradling combined for a total of 10 steals. Overall, the girls played a super game and should be proud of their performance. The Lady Mavs finish their regular season on Monday night as they travel to Louisburg. Good luck ladies! The 8th grade JV suffered only their 3rd loss of the season last night to Pioneer Ridge. Shayna Weers lead the way with 5 points followed by Haidyn Hrabe with 3, Laura Mossman and Mindy Cussen each had 2 points and Holly Brooks had 1. Defensively Mackenzie Gretencord and Mindy Cussen each had 5 steals to keep the Jaguars from scoring. We are looking forward to a great tournament tomorrow here at the middle school. 8th grade JV Lady Mavs came ready to play on Saturday for their league tournament. The Lady Mavs defeated Wheatridge 29-16 in the first game. The Lady Mavs defense had 30 steals in the game that kept the Mustangs out of their offense most of the game. Leading scorers against Wheatridge where, Mackenzie Gretencord and Laura Mossman with 8, Holly Brooks and Shayna Weers with 4 and Haidyn Hrabe with 3. The Lady Mavs then played in the championship game against Paola. This game led to a heartbreaking 20-23, overtime loss. Shayna Weers led the scoring with 10 points which included two 3 point shots, Laura Mossman had 4 points and Holly Brooks, Mackenzie Gretencord and Shelby Mata had 2 points each. On Saturday the 7th grade Lady Mavericks J.V. played host in their league tournament with Ottawa, Wheatridge, Paola, and Spring Hill taking part in the tournament. In the first game the Lady Mavericks took on the Wheatridge Mustangs. The Lady Mavericks jumped out to an early lead as they went up 7-2 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Mavericks continued to play solid defense and maintained their offense as they went into halftime leading 15-4. In the second half the Lady Mavericks held the Mustangs to 9 points as they added to their lead and came away with their 6th straight victory 30-13. The Lady Mavericks were led by Sam Ragle 10 points, Karinna Cain 8 points, Hanna Meiring 4 points, Abby Mikesell 3 points, Tristen Richardson and Jasmine Pennington 2 points, Mackenzie Tyler 1 point. Tessa Davids, Macy Burke and Jessica Pollom contributed by playing solid defense. By winning the first game the Lady Mavericks advanced to the championship game against the Paola Panthers. Early in the season the Lady Mavericks lost to the Paola Panthers 29-13. The Lady Mavericks came out against the Paola Panthers looking to improve on the first time they played the Panthers. In the first quarter the Lady Mavericks came out playing solid defense and executing on offense as they jumped out to a 6-4 lead. In the second quarter the Lady Mavericks continued to battle as the game became more physical. At halftime the Lady Mavericks and Lady Panthers were tied 10-10. In the second half the Lady Mavericks and Panthers went back and forth. The Lady Mavericks buckled down defensively and were able to create enough offense and execute on the free throw line as they pulled away with their 7th straight victory and were crowned champions of the tournament with a 22-19 victory. The Lady Mavericks were led by Karinna Cain and Abby Mikesell with 5 points, Hanna Meiring and Tessa Davids 4 points, Tristen Richardson and Jessica Pollom 2 points. Jasmine Pennington, Macy Burke, Mackenzie Tyler, and Sam Ragle contributed with solid defense. The Lady Mavericks will look to end the season with their eighth straight victory as they host Louisburg on Monday. Good job Lady Mavericks. |

The 7th grade varsity basketball team rocked the house last night in the first half of their game against the Louisburg Wildcats. The lady Mavs full court defense had the Wildcats confused allowing them to jump ahead to an impressive 9 to 3 lead in the first quarter. 2nd and 3rd quarter was much of the same with the lead going back and forth between the teams. This game was EXCITING! Jenna Nevius lead the team in rebounds with 12 while Shelby Baker pulled down 9. The Lady Mavs defense weakened in the second half of the game as several players got into foul trouble. On defense Chasity Ward, Katy Crooks, and Sydney Shoemaker’s aggressive defense benefited the team as they picked off 2 steals a piece. In the end of this hard fought battle the Lady Mavs lost by the score of 32 to 26. The Lady Mavs host Ottawa in the first round of their league tournament this Thursday at 4. Last night the Lady Mavericks 7th grade JV hosted the Lady Wildcats from Louisburg. The Lady Mavericks got off to a slow start in the first half offensively but played solid defense as they went into halftime trailing 2-11. In the second half the Lady Mavericks were able to pick up the offense as they closed the gap at the end of the third quarter as they trailed 6-11. In the fourth quarter the Lady Wildcats went on a 7-2 run to end the game as they handed the Lady Mavericks their 3rd loss of the season. The Lady Mavericks were led in scoring by Karinna Cain, Tristen Richardson, Sam Ragle, and Macy Burke with 2 points each. The Lady Mavericks were led in rebounding by Abby Mikesell 5 rebounds, McKenzie Tyler 4 rebounds, Tristen Richardson, Sam Ragle 3 rebounds each, Tessa Davids and Hanna Meiring 2 rebounds each, and Jasmine Pennington, Karinna Cain, Macy Burke, and Jessica Pollom with 1 rebound each. The 8th grade Varsity Lady Mavs played a hard fought game last night, but suffered a tough loss to the Louisburg Wildcats, 33-16. The Lady Mavs looked strong on defense, but had trouble generating points on the offensive end of the court. Shelby Spradling and Rachel Schuckman did a nice job on the boards last night combining for a total of 15 rebounds. Hayley Ditmars was high scorer with 9 points. Great job ladies, you didn’t give up the fight!! We are proud of you!! The girls will have a home game against Paola on Thursday night for the first round of the League Tournament. Come out and show your support! Good luck ladies! The 8th grade JV ended their season with a disappointing loss to Louisburg. It was a hard fought game that went back and forth in the score until the last 2 minutes when Louisburg went on a run to go up 21-14. Congratulations to the 8th Grade Varsity Lady Mavs for an amazing win last night in the first round of the Frontier League Tournament. The Lady Mavs played a nice first half of ball trailing the Paola Panthers two points at halftime. In the third quarter, they shocked the Panthers as they went on a 10-point unanswered run. However, the pendulum swung to Paola’s side in the fourth quarter as they out scored Spring Hill 8-5. The Lady Mavs held on for a 5-point victory, the final score was 23-18. Leading scorer was Rachel Schuckman with 7 points, and Sydney Cluck with 6 points. Sydney Cluck also led in steals with 5. Leading in rebounds were Shelby Spradling and Rachel Schuckman with 6 apiece. It was a huge victory for Spring Hill as they advance in the tournament to play Louisburg @ 9:00 Saturday morning. Good Luck Ladies! The 7th grade varsity basketball team moved on to the winners side of the bracket in the league tournament by beating Ottawa last night by the score of 35 to 15. The Lady Mavs stepped up their game offensively and defensively. Top rebounders were Shelby Baker with 12 and pulling down 5 rebounds each were Jenna Nevius and Alicia Young. A big congratulation goes out to the 7th grade varsity basketball team as they took 3rd place over the weekend in the league tournament. The first game of the day the Lady Mas lost a heartbreaker to Baldwin, the tournament champs, in the last 12 seconds by the score of 26 to 25. The Lady Mavs worked hard and played hard but it just wasn’t enough to seal the victory. The next game the Lady Mavs defeated Pioneer Ridge by the score of 31 to 21. Anna Duncan did an awesome job shutting down their tallest player, out playing her on defense and out-rebounding her. Chasity Ward was 100% from the free throw line making all four of her free throws. The team did a fantastic job working together and running their offense. Shelby Baker was not afraid to take it too the hoop as she was on fire scoring 20 points for the team. What an awesome season. Thanks girls for all the fun and excitement this season! Coach Meek |
| 9:00a 8GBB varsity finals tournament @ Paola-SHMS | The 8th Grade Varsity Lady Mavs completed their season on Saturday in Paola for the final games of the league tournament. In the second round, Spring Hill faced the Louisburg Wildcats. The Lady Mavs played a tough game, but the high shooting percentage of Louisburg stunned the Mavs by a score of 41-18. The girls regrouped for the next game against Pioneer Ridge for the honor of third place. Again, the girls were faced with a very talented team only to be defeated by a score of 39-12. The girls finished a respectable 4th place in the Frontier League Tournament. Congratulations to the 8th grade team of: Sydney Cluck, Hayley Ditmars, Rachel Schuckman, Alix Brown, Shelby Spradling, Sarah Beck, Hailey Taylor, Mackenzie Gretencord, Mindy Cussen, and managers, Megan Hobson and Kelsey Spatz.
