Aug 31Mon 4:00p 7VB Baldwin @ SHMS-2 games-SHMS Your 7th grade varsity had their hands full against a very talented Baldwin team. Even though the Lady Mavs played a hard fought game, they fell short 20-25 and 20-25. For the first game of the season, there were a lot of good things. Taurean Guzman, Shelby Baker and Reagan Taylor were top servers for the evening. Jenna Nevius, Chasity Ward and Tessa Davids had some nice passes. Eliza Little worked hard for nice set ups and hits. Tate Drees and Abby Bell pulled together and finished up with great hustle. Overall not too bad for the first match. Second match was very challenging for the Mavs. They faced awesome serving from Baldwin and went down hard with scores of 8-25 and 9-25. Next action for the Lady Mavericks will be home against Louisburg Wildcats.

The 7th grade JV Mavericks had a rough start to their season as they went up against the Baldwin Bulldogs last night here at home. The girls worked hard and did their best. The scores for the first match were 25-23, 19-25 and 13-25. The second match scores were 24-25 and 21-25. The last match's scores were very close and the Mavericks took the lead many times. Top servers for the first match were Alex Wulfkuhle, Brenna Ewing and Taylor Boyle. Top servers for the second match were Marissa Manbeck an Ellie Sharemet. The Mavericks take on the Louisburg Wildcats this Thursday at home. Be sure to come out and cheer on your favorite Maverick volleyball players.
4:00p 8VB SHMS @ Baldwin-2 games-SHMS The 8th grade Varsity volleyball team took on their first opponents of the season last night in Baldwin. It was a tough team to face for the first face-off of the season but the Mavericks showed spirit and played their hearts out. Unfortunately, Baldwin came out with the wins, but the Lady Mavs can’t wait to face them again at the end of the season tournament – where that match will have a different ending.

The 8th grade junior varsity volleyball team opened their season last night by traveling to take on the Bulldogs of Baldwin. First game jitters and nerves were present but the girls soon calmed their fears and began to play some volleyball. Kelsey Spatz was all over the floor, showing great hustle and motivation. Mackenzie Gretencord was the most supportive player of the night, helping others figure out how to play their positions and where they needed to be. Despite the awesome serving of Laura Mossman and the valiant efforts of the rest of the team, they couldn't get a win away from the Bulldogs. The Lady Mavericks will show their spirit and desire again on Thursday, against the Louisburg Wildcats. Come out to cheer them on!

Sep 3Thu 4:00p 7VB Louisburg @ SHMS-SHMS What an exciting evening of volleyball your 7th grade varsity Lady Mavericks were amazing. All the Mavs were ready to play and it showed. The girls split with the Louisburg Wildcats. First set of games were on the edge of your seat non stop excitement with a nail biting loss of 24-25. Next score was 13-25. Top servers for the games were Taurean Guzman, Chasity Ward and Eliza Little. Top serve receivers were Katy Crooks and Jenna Nevius. Outstanding hustle from Tate Drees and Abby Bell. Reagan Taylor and Tessa Davids had great digs to keep play going. Shelby Baker was a brick wall at the net with several nice blocks. Top hitters were Shelby Baker, followed by Eliza Little, Abby Bell and Chasity Ward. Your Lady Mavs win the second set of games with scores of 25-22, 10-25 and 25-21. Nice teamwork ladies! Next action for the Mavericks will be Tuesday at Eudora. I also need to thank my managers!!!! Please add a Thank You to Matti Sills, Sarah Presley, McKenzie Rea and Keleigh Booton. The seventh grade JV Lady Mavericks won their first match last night against the Louisburg Wildcats. The scores from the first match were 25-21 and 25-22. The top servers for the match were Alex Wulfkuhle and Marissa Manbeck. The second match of the evening went into three games with the scores being 25-23, 22-25 and 8-25. Top servers for the second match were Alex Wulfkuhle, Miranda Taylor and Adriana Sosa. The girls play Eudora this coming Tuesday at Eudora.

The 8th grade JV Lady Mavericks traveled to Louisburg last night to take on the Wildcats. This team played a completely different game than the one earlier in the week and really pulled together to participate in some awesome volleyball. Shelby Mata and Krysteena Redman had some awesome serves and even a few aces! Alisyn Lucas was the top passer of the night, reaching to get all kinds of serves and spikes and passing them right up to the setters. The Lady Mavs lost both matches against Louisburg but it wasn't without a fight. Scores of the two matches were 24-25, 20-25, 24-24 and 19-25, all four game were very close. Thanks to the managers Christian Martin and Lacy Simmons for all their outstanding help. The 8th grade Lady Mavericks will play their first home matches of the season Tuesday against Wheatridge.
Sep 8Tue 4:00p 7VB SHMS @ Eudora-2 games-SHMS The Lady Mavericks are playing fantastic volleyball and improved with two more wins. The Mavs traveled to Eudora yesterday and took on the Cardinals. The girls brought their "A" game and won their first match 25-10 and 25-16. They went on to win their second match 25-18, 23-25 and 15-1. Very impressive serving from Taurean Guzman with a total of 31 good serves and only three misses. Other leading servers were: Katy Crooks and Shelby Baker. Eliza Little, Jenna Nevius, Shelby Baker, along with Tate Drees had some awesome hits/kills at the net. Chasity Ward was top passer. Abby Bell, Tessa Davids, Reagan Taylor and Katy Crooks hustled all over the court to keep the ball alive. Taurean, Eliza and Katy were top setters for the matches with help set up the unstoppable kills. Awesome Team Work Mavericks! Your hard work has paid off. The Spring Hill 7th JV ladies went up against the Eudora Cardinals last night in Eudora. The girls played well and were able to win both matches easily. The first match scores were 25-17 and 25-20. Top servers for the first match were Karinna Cain and Brenna Ewing. The second match scores were 25-22 and 25-21. Both sets were close, but the girls pulled through. The top servers for the second match were Marissa Manbeck, Mandi Taylor, Karinna Cain and Ellie Sharemet. The girls will be playing the Wheatridge Mustangs next Monday at Wheatridge. Come out and support your favorite Maverick team!
4:00p 8VB Eudora @ SHMS-2 games-SHMS The 8th grade varsity volleyball team played hard against Eudora last night and ended up splitting, winning the first set of games and fighting to win the second set. But although they took Eudora to 3 they just couldn't pull it out. Top servers of the evening were: Hayley Ditmars, Rachel Schuckman, Shayna Weers and serving 100% was Jenny Kohl! Top passers were: Sydney Cluck and Bri Brenneman. Top hitters were: Liz Atwell, Rachel Schuckman, Megan Hobson, Bri Brenneman and Hayley Ditmars. Thank you to the managers for another great evening of stats: Rachel Hedrick, Kelsey Fletcher and Liz Furrell. And an extra special thank you to Rachel Schuckman for throwing away the trash that was on the benches, YOU are exempt from consequences at practice! Last night, the 8th grade JV volleyball team had their home opener against the Eudora Cardinals. After the results of last week's matches, the team came out ferocious and determined to earn a win. Serving was the key to victory and Mackenzie Gretencord and Kelsey Spatz were ready to put up that fight. These two girls served over 40 serves between the two of them and had an amazing 90% accuracy. Laura Mossman also contributed some awesome serves for the night and she too served about 90%. The team worked hard and fought to the end, coming out on top for both of the two matches. Way to go girls!! Thanks to our managers, Christian Martin and Lacy Simmons, for doing a great job line judging last night. Thanks to the cheerleaders and fans for cheering us on to a couple of victories!
Sep 14Mon 4:00p 7VB SHMS @ Wheatridge-2 games-SHMS The 7th grade varsity had yet another day of awesome volleyball, adding two more wins to the win column. The Mavericks traveled to Wheatridge and took on the Mustangs. The Mavs were impressive with excellent serving of 109 serves with only 13 misses. A team total of 88% The Mavericks win Match one 25-5, 5-21 and go on to win Match two 25-9, 22-25 and 25-15. Once again teamwork pays off for the unstoppable Mavs. Top servers for the Mavericks were Taurean Guzman with 37 good serves and only two misses. Chasity Ward and Shelby Baker were the other top servers. Leading with kills were Shelby Baker, Eliza Little, Tate Drees, Taurean Guzman and Katy Crooks. Jenna Nevius and Tessa Davids kept the ball in play with good passing. Abby Bell and Reagan Taylor were all over the court keeping the ball alive. The 7th grade JV volleyball girls played the Wheatridge Mustangs last night and won both matches. Each match went into 3 sets. The girls played tough and worked hard to win. Scores for the first match were 25-20, 17-25 and 25-17. Top servers for the first match were Karinna Cain, Sam Ragle, Mandy Taylor and Alex Wulfkuhle. The scores for the second match were 25-24, 23-25 and 25-28. The top servers for the second match were Karinna Cain, Taylor Boyle and Mandy Taylor. During both matches many of the girls were passing well and moving the ball. Some great serve receiving was made by Marissa Manbeck, Brenna Ewing, Taylor Boyle and Mandy Taylor. The girls will be playing Ottawa next Monday here at home.
4:00p 8VB Wheatridge @ SHMS-2 games-SHMS The 8th grade varsity volleyball showed determination, will and spirit last night as they dominated the court against Wheatridge. Winning both sets of games with scores of: 25-14, 25-15 for the first set and 25-13 and 25-20 for the second set the girls played as a team and with heart. Top servers of the night were: Liz Atwell and Shayna Weers. Setting incredible last night were Hayley Ditmars and Bri Brenneman. Dominating the net were: Hayley Ditmars, Bri Brenneman, Jennie Kohl and Rachel Schuckman. And to start off those great hits and sets were our wonderful passers: Sydney Cluck and Megan Hobson.

The 8th grade JV volleyball team took on the Mustangs of Wheatridge last night here in Spring Hill. The Lady Mavericks came out on fire, earning a quick 25-11 win. The rest of the night was a hard fought battle with the Mustangs to see who could come out on top. The Lady Mavs ended up splitting the victories with Wheatridge, each taking home a single win. Top servers of the night were Haidyn Hrabe, serving 83% and Mackenzie Gretencord, Laura Mossman and Alyssa Westfall, all serving 80%. Showing great determination and hustle were teammates Alisyn Lucas, Jeanie Morris, Shelby Mata and Krysteena Redman. Keeping the team positive and being a true leader was Kelsey Spatz. Awesome job girls!! Come out next Monday to see the Lady Mavericks in action against the Whirlwinds of Ottawa.
Sep 21Mon 4:00p 7VB Ottawa @ SHMS-2 games-SHMS The 7th grade Lady Maverick varsity gain back control and split with the Ottawa Whirlwinds yesterday. After starting out with sluggish serving, 11 total miss the first match . The Mavs fell short 22-25 and 17-25. With determination the Lady Mavs fought back and only missed 4 total serves the next two sets to win 25-22 and 25-15. Awesome job pulling back together ladies! Top server for teh day was Katy Crooks serving 20 out of 23. She was followed by Taurean Guzman and Chasity Ward. Most improved server for the day was Tessa Davids. Abby Bell and Reagan Taylor did a nice job keeping the ball in play. Leading hitters at the net were Shelby Baker, Jenna Nevius and Tate Drees. Leading setters were Eliza Little, Taurean Guzman and Katy Crooks. Leading blocker for the matches was Shelby Baker. Keep working together Mavs. We will host Paola at home next Monday. Although they were not easy to come by last night in Ottawa with scores in the first set of: 22-25, 25-23 and 25-24 and in the second set of: 25-18 and 25-22. The girls definitely had the audience on pins and needles. Top servers of the night were: Bri Brenneman, Hayley Ditmars and Liz Atwell. Top passers/diggers of the night were: Sydney Cluck, Megan Hobson and Shayna Weers. Top hitters of the night were: Hayley Ditmars, Bri Brenneman, Jenny Kohl and Rachel Schuckman. Chalk up two more victories for the 8th grade JV volleyball team! Last night's matches against the Ottawa Whirlwinds both went to the Lady Mavs. The team came out to a quick 25-16 victory and then had to fight a little harder the rest of the night to stick with it and pull out the wins. Krysteena Redman was teh one to count on when we needed it last night for some good serves. Alyssa Westfall was top passer of the night and Mackenzie Gretencord played the net like a pro. Jeannie Morris had a couple of amazing spikes, while Haidyn Hrabe, Laura Mossman, Jeannie Morris and Shelby Mata had some tremendous teamwork. Kelsey Spatz kept the team up and going with some positive words of encouragment for everyone. Thanks to the managers Christian Martin, Lacy Simmons and Amber McZegle for all of their great stat keeping. Way to go Lady Mavs, your record is now 5-5!

Next match was 25-10, 17-25 and 15-25. Whole team effort made this an exciting set of games to the very end. Top servers were near perfect from Taurean Guzman with 37 out of 38. Chasity Ward with 22 out of 23 and Katy Crooks with 18 out of 21. Eliza Little went 100% with 9 out of 9 along with Reagan Taylor 100% with 8 for 8. Jenna Nevius, Tessa Davids and Tate Drees did a great job keeping the ball in play. Shelby Baker was the leader at the net with 3 solid kills and 7 smart hits at the net to make it difficult for the Panthers to read or play. Shelby was also the Mavs leading blocker. Abby Bell played a fantastic defensive game at the net not letting anything drop. Nice all around team play girls. Next action will be at Pioneer Ridge in Gardner on Monday. Last night the 7th grade JV girls came out against the Paola Panthers ready to win. They played hard and had great teamwork that led them to victory! The girls had some close sets, but came out on top! The scores for the first match were 25-22 and 25-19. Top server for the first match was Brenna Ewing with 11 serves. The other team members helped capture the win with more great serving. Kiana Moffat and Mandy Taylor both had 5 serves, Marissa Manbeck had 4 serves, Alex Wulfkuhle had 3, Adriana Sosa had 2 and Karinna Cain had one serve. The second match went into three sets with the scores being very close. The girls kept their composure and played well under pressure. The scores for the second match were 25-9, 24-25 and 25-24. Top servers for the second match were Alex Wulfkuhle with 16 serves, Marissa Manbeck with 11 serves and Elly Sharemet with 8 serves. Other servers for the last match were Karinna Cain with 4 serves, Kianna Moffat with 3 serves, Brenna Ewing with 4 serves, Mandy Taylor with 6 serves and Adriana Sosa with 4 serves. Last night, the 8th grade volleyball JV team traveled down the road to take on the Paola Panthers. The JV girls were looking for two more wins but had a very difficult struggle ahead of them. Paola came out strong but the Lady Mavs fought hard. The girls really came together as a team but it wasn't enough to knock down the Panters. The Lady Mavericks lost the first match in two games and the second match in three games. Top server of the night was Alisyn Lucas. Kelsey Spatz worked the net, spiking and tipping the ball for a few much needed points. The girls play in a tournament on Saturday, back in Paola. Come out and cheer them on!

Oct 3Sat 9:00a VB 7/8 JV Tournament @ Paola-SHMS On Saturday, the 8th grade JV Lady Mavericks traveled to Paola for a tournament with Paola, Wheatridge and Ottawa. They started the day with a bang, fighting Paola for every single point. The Lady Mavs played their best volleyball of the season against Paola and the winner was ultimately decided in 3 games, with the last one coming down to one point. The Lady Mavs lost this match but it wasn't because they didn't give 110%. Next they took on Wheatridge and then Ottawa, going into three games in both of those matches as well. The Lady Mavs ended the day on a high note, winning against Ottawa. Top servers of the tournament were Alisyn Lucas, who had a stellar day of serving at 100%, and Kelsey Spatz, who served 89%. Top passers of the day were Mackenzie Gretencord and Shelby Mata. Great job at the tournament girls! Thanks to the managers for all of their awesome help! Come out tonight to support the girls in their last match of the season at home versus Pioneer Ridge.

The 7th grade JV Mavericks traveled to Paola on Saturday to play in the Junior Varsity League Tournament. The girls went up against the Paola Panthers in the first match and bet them in two sets with both scores being 25-21. It was early in the morning and the girls were playing well! In the second match the girls went up against the Wheatridge Mustangs and easily beat them too. The scores for the two sets were 25-22 and 25-15. The last match for the day had the Lady Mavs going up against the Ottawa Whirlwinds. Once again the girls had no trouble and took control of the match and came out winners. The scores for the final match were 25-12 and 25-17. The Lady Mavs were the only team at the tournament that went completely undefeated! Top server for the entire tournament was Alex Wulfkuhle with 38 serves. Other serving stats were Karinna Cain with 18, Kiana Moffat with 5, Brenna Ewing with 16, Sam Ragle with 2, Taylor Boyle with 3, Mandi Taylor with 16, Adriana Sosa with 2, Marissa Manbeck with 9 and Elli Sharemet with 11. Top passing for the tournament was achieved by Mandi Taylor with 31. The other passing stats were Alex Wulfkuhle with 24, Karinna Cain with 19, Kiana Moffat with 9, Brenna Ewing with 26, Sam Ragle with 1, Taylor Boyle with 9, Adriana Sosa with 14, Marissa Manbeck with 27 and Elli Sharemet with 9. Congratulations to the team, they were playing outstanding volleyball and came out champions! Coach Sly was extremely proud of everyone on the team. The Mavericks traveled to Pioneer Ridge yesterday and played outstanding volleyball. Struggling at the serving line didn't stop the determination to keep working hard. Scores for the games were 25-23, 25-22 and the final match 23-25, 25-23, and 15-10. Top servers for the day were Shelby Baker, with 25 out of 30 with 6 aces. Katy Crooks with 24 out of 25 and Taurean Guzman with 22 out of 26. Great play by Reagan Taylor, Jenna Nevius and Abby Bell keeping the ball alive. Nice net work by Shelby Baker and Chasity Ward with three kills each. Other strong net work came from Eliza Little, Tessa Davids and Tate Drees. All around team hustle kept the games exciting to the very end. The girls end their season with a record of 9-5. The next action will be the league tournament at Eudora this Saturday. Great work ladies lets keep the winning streak going.

The scores for the first match were 25-16 and 25-15. Top servers for the first match were Karinna Cain, Adriana Sosa and Marissa Manbeck. Top passers were Mandy Taylor and Marissa Manbeck. The second match scores were 25-13 and 25-18. Top servers for the second match were Mandy Taylor, Alex Wulfkuhle, Karinna Cain, Marissa Manbeck and Elly Sharemet. Top passer was Kiana Moffat. The girls had an amazing season and ended up with a record of 14-3. Way to go Lady Mavs! Very Impressive!
4:00p 8VB Pioneer Ridge @ SHMS-2 games-SHMS In a phenomenal night of 8th grade varsity volleyball last night the Lady Mavs fell to Pioneer Ridge. They played the best they have played all season - serving, passing, setting, hitting hard and playing as a team. Each girl gave all that they had and took Pioneer Ridge to 3 games each match. Keep working hard and best of luck on Saturday at Louisburg ladies.

Last night the 8th grade JV Lady Mavericks took on the Jaguars of Pioneer Ridge in their last matches of the season. The Lady Mavs were ready to fight hard for the last possible chances for a win and took the Jaguars into three games in the first match. The girls ended up losing that match, as well as the second one but worked very hard against the hard hitting team of Pioneer Ridge. Top servers of the night were Laura Mossman, Alyssa Westfall, Haidyn Hrabe, and Kelsey Spatz. Shelby Mata and Mackenzie Gretencord had some amazing sets for hitters, while Alisyn Lucas, Jeanie Morris and Krysteena Redman showed some great teamwork. Thanks to the fans, the cheerleaders and everyone else who helped at the matches this season. Way to go girls, congrats on a great season!!
Oct 10Sat 9:00a 7VB League Tournament @ Eudora-varsity-SHMS The 7th grade Lady Mavs traveled to Eudora Saturday for their end of the year tourney. The girls went into the tourney with a number three seed. The first match up for the Mavericks were the Mustangs from Wheatridge. Mavericks won with the scores of 25-17 and 25-23. Next up for the ladies was the only team that had beat them all season, Baldwin. The girls got caught on their heels and struggled with serving and moving. The girls lost 9-25 and 10-25. The girls took on Pioneer Ridge next, playing a bit sluggish with problems at the serving line, they were able to keep it exciting but fell short 20-25 and 18-25. The final game of the season was against the number one seed, Louisburg. The girls tried to pull together and went down 14-25 and 13-25. Leading the way in serves were Eliza Little 25 out of 29. Taurean Guzman had 34 good serves and Katy Crooks with 18. Most improved passer for the tourney was Tessa Davids. Abby Bell, Tate Drees and Reagan Taylor did a nice job helping out their teammates during tournament play. Leaders at the net were Shelby Baker, Jenna Nevius and Chasity Ward with several kills. Nice job ladies. You had a great season.
9:00a 8VB League Tournament @ Louisburg-varsity-SHMS The 8th grade varsity volleyball team finished the season strong on Saturday at their league tournament in Louisburg. They started out early, battling but falling to Pioneer Ridge with scores of 15-25 and 20-25. Next they played and beat Ottawa with scores of 25-19 and 25-19. They turned right around and played Louisburg but were a little tired falling to Louisburg with scores of 14-25 and 10-25. They then went on to tournament play where they had 2 more matches. The first against Wheatridge whom they beat with scores of 25-27 and 25-27. Their next games were against Paola whom they beat as well with scores of 25-23 and 25-21. Winning these last 2 matches meant that the girls finished the day in 5th place.
Each team member brought their A game and with heart all day. Top servers were Liz Atwell, Jennie Kohl and Rachel Schuckman. With beautiful sets from Bri Brenneman, Mackenzie Gretencord and Hayley Ditmars top hitters of the day were Hayley Ditmars, Jennie Kohl, Rachel Schuckman, Sydney Cluck, Megan Hobson and Kelsey Spaatz. Those sets couldn’t have been possible without the incredible passes and digs from Shayna Weers and Sydney Cluck. Rachel Schuckman was not only on top of her serves and hits but was incredible blocking at the net with 5 stuff blocks! Way to go girls and congratulations on a great season.
